The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and will leave your floors clean. Its price is affordable and its high-end features (such as a dirt detector) are positives.

Be sure to inspect your robot's brushes for hair tangled as well as large debris and wash them if needed. Some models will also empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in an additional bin at the base. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum cleaners uk that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it will cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
