Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are usually used on uPVC doors, but they can also be used on other types of patio door handle. They operate by using a key to unlock a cylinder case that is then revealed with pins that can be aligned with those inside the lock body, allow them to rotate a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. External and internal doors require different levels of security.

Selecting the right cylinder for your needs is crucial; it is contingent on how your door and handle are utilized. For example, external doors require a higher security cylinder, whilst internal doors can be secured with the standard cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders come with additional features that increase security further, such as anti-drill or anti-bump features.

A euro cylinder must be measured accurately to ensure that it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the other end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. It is recommended to do this while the lock is in place however when this isn't possible, you can remove it to take measurements. It is essential to avoid having a cylinder that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This could make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.

The design of the latest cylinders comes with anti-drilling as well as bump resistance features. They are designed to decrease the chances of an attack by causing the cylinder to rotate in an opposite direction. This will help to deflect an attack and ensure your door is secure.

There are also cylinders designed to resist snapping. This is a typical attack on cylinders. It also helps prevent your door from becoming stuck in either the open or closed position, as they are difficult to close manually.

These spring cassettes have been specifically designed for use with sprung multipoint locks but they won't work with unsprung multipoint handles and you will require a hole specifically cut in your backplate to allow these to fit (please see image for technical diagram). They are a replacement for existing broken or missing cassettes within the backplates of door handles of various kinds of uPVC doors. They feature a square cut-out that accommodates an 8mm spindle and they are supplied individually.
