The best cheap robot vacuum models have smart navigation technology and object avoidance capabilities that help them maneuver around cords, toys and other obstacles in the household.

1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The iRobot Roomba i3+ is a great robot vacuum with many smart features that make it easier to maintain. Its automatic bin emptying is one of the most useful features we've seen on the form of a robot and it is compatible with both hard floors and carpets. It's also simple to set up and use, with the app guiding you step-by-step through the procedure. Its ability to resume where it left off during our tests is another impressive feature. It could do this for 77 minutes on one cleaning, and then the battery was exhausted.

Contrary to other robovacs we've tested, the i3+ EVO comes with self cleaning vacuum-emptying bins that dump debris into an external dirt compartment on the base of its charging when it's filled. This reduces hands-on maintenance and keeps the i3+ EVO from overfilling, but it still needs to be manually cleaned after each cleaning session. The i3+ EVO's built-in dust bin can hold 2.4L of debris, which is more than enough to last four or five cleaning sessions before needing to replace it.

Similar to the i7, this model is equipped with state-of-the-art floor sensors to create maps and navigate neat rows. However, the i3+ EVO only stores one map, whereas the i7 has the capacity to store multiple maps. The i7 is also able to make use of its map to create no-go zones as well as virtual barriers, but the i3+ EVO cannot.

The i3+ EVO does a better job of removing debris from the surface compared to some other robovacs that we have reviewed, but it is not the best in cleaning corners and edges. It's also not as gentle on furniture, despite being surprisingly quiet. It pushed chairs away from walls, and made some collisions with the sides of our bed, and also became stuck on cords and toys during our testing.

2. Black & Decker Pro Q5

If you're looking to expand your robot vacuum collection or just starting out with the Q5 Pro is a great choice. It features an elegant design with powerful navigation and useful automation at a reasonable cost. It's the best robot vacuums model for the money on the market currently and even beats other Roborock models which are more expensive in a variety of ways.

This robot is excellent at cleaning floors that are bare and its avoidance technology helps it steer clear of furniture legs or other obstacles. It also does well on carpets and gets the highest score on our tests on navigation. The only drawback is that it's a little noisier than many other models we test, and it doesn't fare similarly in our user satisfaction and predicted reliability assessments.

The Q5 Pro comes with a large dust bin of 770ml. This means you won't need to empty it as often as other 2-in-1 robots. The Q5 Pro's 240 minute running time is also a lot when compared to other 2-in-1 robots we tested. When the battery is low it goes back to its dock and automatically recharges before continuing cleaning where it stopped. You can control the Q5 Pro using the app or voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

This is the first robot vacuum cleaner amazon we've seen with 3D mapping. This, along with other innovations, helps it perform exceptionally well during our mopping and vacuuming tests. It allows you to schedule cleanings, set no-go zones, and view the status of the battery as well as other things. The app is simple to use, however it doesn't support Apple HomeKit. The iMop awed us with its navigation efficiency and coverage evaluations and was also efficient in getting around obstacles, such as furniture. It's also able to return to the base station which is a great benefit in the event it is unable to recharge its battery during cleaning.

The spot cleaning mode allows you to clean a specific space on your floor. It can also be manually programmed to follow a predetermined path, which is beneficial in narrow staircases or hallways. It did a good job of cleaning carpets during our carpet cleaning review however it had a difficult time with higher pile carpets and rugs. It is able to lift the mop pad automatically whenever it comes in contact with carpet. This is a great feature for those who wish to save the time of mopping their carpets.

The iMop has an onboard dustbin and a water tank that empties at the end each cleaning session. The dust bin on board can hold up to 2.5 Liters of debris and will only require emptying after a couple of cleaning cycles. The water tank can handle about a dozen mopping sessions before it gets dry. The iMop is easier to maintain and clean than the average robot cleaner (Full Record), and can be a major selling point for busy families.

The iMop smartphone app is user-friendly and has a lot of configuration options. It offers multiple suction modes, mopping settings and also scheduling. It allows you to set up virtual walls, no-go zones and other restrictions so that the robot doesn't wander into areas that aren't safe for it. Additionally, the app lets you view your iMop's status and warnings about errors.
