World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can boost an item level upgrade's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of all its leveled up benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks must be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and can be seen on all item tooltips. It can also be used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear since PvP is not available at a lower level. The average level of an item is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can evaluate the levels of the item. It's a sign of the damage and its quality. The level of the item can be used to compare items when evaluating the inventory of a vendor.

On PC, you are able to view the item level by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full item description, including its level. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are many theories about the method by which the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item upgrader kit. This can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is typically close to the actual Blizzard item upgrading level.

However, this is not the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl since the level of the region the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher value than items dropped in lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item are a major part of what determines the value of an item for players. The game utilizes them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's level.

The upgrades to items add by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. A white or grey item for instance, can only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can do things like give the item additional damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an exclusive name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other rerolling options.

Players can choose to upgrade an item with specific stats or reroll attaches. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it is a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll affixes, or choose which stats to boost. Similar to the base equipment, this must be done per item, and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of these properties. It doesn't, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game, and is therefore more useful in the early game than later ones because most players value greater weapon scaling and defense over the raw damage gain.

Luck can also boost the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances, which increase with each item level. It is also possible to be increased by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) for a further +40 luck or to boost an item's existing Luck up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that is able to deal damage by 5%. These items are available from the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item if it does not work.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..

The performance of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of the item. Each item has an overall success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

The item upgrade overlays are displayed above items in the inventory. This could block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
