World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increases when it is upgraded. This value is the total of all its leveled up benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you do. This is due to how many perks must be replaced to allow the item upgrade to be upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.

The level of an item can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a sign of the item's damage and quality. Comparing items from a vendor's stock is possible using the item's level.

On PC, you can view the item level using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its level. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about how the level of an item is determined. One theory states that the item level is determined by formulas that determine how valuable an item's stats really are. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets boost the value of the item. This could result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is usually very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.

This isn't the only thing that affects the value of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped may change its stats. For example it can add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods which are then boosted by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item upgrader kit can increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, while items with rare tiers can be upgraded many times, at higher costs.

Another method to alter the stats of an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all shapes and sizes. The affixes are used to give items additional damage or other special capabilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs), or to differentiate them by adding a name.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and other items, which can be used to add to the upgrade item gauge in the same way as the other rerolling options.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which of the available stats they want to keep on an item upgrade after it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However, all items will contain at least one stat within that range unless they are a unique item, or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item level, and the interface for item comparison wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is particularly beneficial for early game runs, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to increase the value of 40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Additionally some items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be found in the shop or created using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their success rate or prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the item, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%.

The luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has a success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases this chance by five percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
