UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes the handles on your doors will wear down and will require replacement upvc door handles. It is essential to match the dimensions of the handles that were previously used when replacing them.

The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw position the lever and key hole sizes. Refer to the size guide for help with this.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever door handle is a contemporary handle that can be put in on new or replacement doors. This type of handle is available in various designs and finishes. This handle is offered by several manufacturers including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The handles of uPVC/Composite are constructed from durable materials, and are ideal for doors with multiple points that require a robust design. The handles are inline, and they use the same spindle and screws to fix them. They are easily fitted on any uPVC/Composite doors.

The design of the sprung lever allows the handle to be set and angled for comfortable operation and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested to 200,000 cycles. This helps ensure that the quality of finish and performance is maintained over time. The sprung lever can be reduced to accommodate more locks. This is especially useful in doors with smaller door frames in which the cylinder is further back. A shortened lever is also a good choice for doors where the latch could be activated by the thumb turn located on the inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle differs from the lever handles commonly found on doors. These handles are operated by a single spindle or by two spindles inline or offset. They are generally employed on UPVC double glazed doors and come in many variations & finishes.

The handles have been tested to a minimum of 200 000 cycles and are available in several finishes, including White Silver, Chrome, & Gold. The finish meets BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, giving the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.

All UPVC lever pads for handles come with a spindle, screws, and can be fitted on a uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixing centres permit a bigger size handle that is often a benefit in replacing a defective or worn multi point door lock mechanism. The handle levers are sprung, solving the problem of door handles sagging from their horizontal position when not in use.

When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is important to match the dimensions of the PZ on the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement may also be called 'handle centre or cylinder centres'. It is important to match the correct handles.

Once you have the proper PZ size you will then be required to make sure that the handle lever pads and push pads are of a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compatible handles you need for your doors. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. external door handles and locks and internal doors require different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder you choose is crucial. It's dependent on the use that your doors and handles receive. External doors, for example should be equipped with cylinders that are more secure, whereas doors inside can be secured with the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that can increase security, such as anti-drill or anti bump properties.

A euro cylinder should be measured accurately to ensure it's the right size for your aluminium door handle. The cylinder should be measured from the hole for fixing screws in the middle to the other end of the cylinder, including the thumb turn if you have one. It is recommended to do this with the lock in place, but in the event that this is not possible, you may take it off to measure. It is essential to ensure that there is no cylinder that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it vulnerable to snapping lock attacks.

The design of many modern cylinders includes anti-drilling and bump resistance features. These are designed to reduce attacks by forcing cylinders to turn in a new direction. This can to deflect an attack and ensure your door is secure.

There are also cylinders that are designed to withstand snapping. This is a typical attack on cylinders. A specially designed tool is used to break the break line of the lock and the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a quicker and more convenient method of gaining access than through the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the burglary which can make it difficult to prove insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is located within the base plate of your door handle. It is a spring-loaded solution to return your multipoint lock handles back to their original position after usage. There was a time when these types of handle didn't have a spring built into them and without this they tend to droop or 'drop' once the locking mechanism is removed. The addition of this simple element is among the best ways to correct this, and is a great way to prevent your doors made of upvc from becoming stuck in the open or closed position, as these are not always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes were created to be used with a sprung multipoint lock. They won't work with handles that are not sprung, and you will have to cut a hole into your backplate in order for them to fit. (Please see the image for a more detailed diagram). These cassettes are a solution for damaged or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are supplied in one unit. They come with a square cut out that accommodates an 8mm shaft.
