Like other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model), they use intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors They are also adept in removing dog hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it when you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot automatic hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and ensure better cleaning robot mop and vacuum. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various flooring types including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the competitors. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing some more volume and some additional cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the degree of dirt they are.

If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you tell the robot vacuums best which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app also grants access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
