WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The upgraded gear typically has a more value in trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show the item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and the current level of the item upgrader kit, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain a new recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through several methods, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item level will cost less even in the event that they are part of a different gear set.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a couple of choices. They can make use of Flightstones that are a common upgrade currency that is available to all players, or crests that are more specialized and used to upgrade specific item upgrader Kit levels. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade item is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with a heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the Best item upgrade gear you have available and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
