Both robots do well cleaning up surface debris from carpets and hard floors and they're excellent at getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean efficiently. The i3+ doesn't feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots that we test. It may get stuck on power cords or socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces, like carpet and hardwood.

iRobot suggests that you clean the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or clutter it may encounter. It's also recommended to keep the dust bin and filter clean so they aren't clogged by dirt. When the i3+ EVO’s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station, and it automatically empties the dirt into the station's dust bin. Then it continues cleaning from where it began. The battery's life span is approximately an hour and a half of constant use. It takes about three hours to charge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in the iRobot flagship line, and it comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and the most important feature of all -- it comes with self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can control your robot via the app or by voice.

The i7+ is faster and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from any surface, including carpeting. The biggest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin that eliminates the main sources of maintenance and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning session, move itself around the room and sweep an area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. After being connected, to give voice commands to the i7+, for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a world of vacuums powered by cordless that resemble minivans and buses. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households, but it also fits in well next to the table for a coffee or shelves where you can move it around like the magic wand.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system is able to trap allergens and then releases fresh air into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles that penetrate deep into carpets and collect large dust or crumbs. It comes with three suction modes to meet the task being performed. It quickly switches from handheld to floor vacuum, and then back to floor.

The model also comes with docks that charge to 100% in around 3.5 hours and provides easy access to two attachments and the wand clip. This is a significant improvement over the older Dysons, that require a long charge and are a pain to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its short running time. The claims of its marketing that it has up to 60 minutes of running time are misleading as CR's tests have shown. This is an average, not an exceptional, time to run the battery-powered cordless vacuum. That's still enough run time to vacuum the majority of a typical-sized home however, it's not enough to clean every area (though a second run-through usually can be effective). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is significantly better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums the 694 is an entry-level model that's a good choice for people who don't want to spend too much on a robotic. It's capable of sucking up most types of debris and sizes during our tests, and it frequently goes over the same areas multiple times to give a thorough clean. The flat front of the unit allows it reach into corners and along the walls' edges, which is a nice touch.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and help you navigate your home. However, it lacks the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, including our top picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. As a result, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently is power-depleted before making it back to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects in that it has fewer components that need regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in moving itself. Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's no surprise, then, that they are also among the top manufacturers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard technology for navigation and obstacles avoidance.

The app provides a range of customization options for your robotic cleaner. These include virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior modifications docking frequency settings and much more. The app is easy to navigate and use similar to other Samsung devices.

In our tests in our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors. It cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). However, it did not do particularly well in avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks which was a disappointment. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested and this could be a deterrent for some shoppers.

The app allows you to access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's automatic cleaning robot area. This feature lets you check in on your children or pets when you're away. The dustbin and the filter can be cleaned to ensure a quick, painless clean-up. The app makes it possible to steer the robot manually, if necessary. For example, my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that can cause confusion for other robots I've tested. However the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, without registering it as a cliff. Also, the ability to create the weekly cleaning schedule is a fantastic time-saving feature.
