Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. 3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competitors. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the sole robot vacuums uk vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however it's more expensive and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the degree of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot vacuums uk that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
