The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work when you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for a wet one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job of cleaning a mix of rooms and floors with various flooring types, such as some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the degree of dirt they are.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a large furniture. Also a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It is a good robot vacuum vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots that vacuum and mop we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuum cleaner vacuums that we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
