A robot vacuum can keep your floors tidy enough to cut down on the frequency of manual hoovering. Choose one that has an easy navigation, can clean corners and stairs and also has a large dust bin that requires emptying only every few times.

There are also models that mop and charge on their own, a feature that may be beneficial for those with pets or kids. The top performers in our tests have good obstacle avoidance.

1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO, are identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying features. The i3+ is a good option for those who want an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but want to manually empty the dust bin after it has filled up.

Both robots are proficient at picking up surface dirt on floors and carpets and can navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart map of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean up efficiently. The i3+ does not feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have test. It could get stuck on power cords or socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces like carpet and hardwood.

iRobot suggests cleaning the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or clutter it might come across. It is also recommended to keep the filters and dust bin clean to prevent them from getting blocked. When the i3+'s internal bin is filled or the battery is empty it goes back to its docking station, automatically empties its trash into the station's external dustbin and then resumes cleaning where it began. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half continuous use. It takes around three hours to recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line and comes with the latest technology. It's self-charging and self-navigating. But the most significant feature is the self-emptying bin. This will eliminate the need for routine maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to create maps of rooms so that it can clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and direct your robot vacuum cleaner best by voice or via the app.

The i7+ is faster and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from any surface, including carpeting. The biggest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin, which removes major maintenance sources and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and move around the room, and even vacuum the area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. We were able, once connected, to voice commands to the i7+ such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with cordless vacs that look like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like an old-fashioned sports car. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in most households and can fit perfectly next to a coffee table or on the bookshelf, that you can spin around like the magic wand.

The V10 is powered by a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy that can provide power without fading for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system removes allergens, and then releases clean air back into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and pick up large dust or crumbs. It comes with three suction settings to suit the task at hand. It is able to swiftly change from floor vacuum to handheld vacuum, and vice versa.

This model comes with a dock that can charge the Dyson to 100 percent within 3.5 hours. It also offers the ability to connect two attachments and a wand. This is a major improvement over previous Dysons that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's main drawback is its limited run time. The claims of its marketing that it has up to 60 minutes of run time are not true, as CR's testing shows. This is a typical and not a remarkable time to run the battery-powered cordless vacuum. It's enough time to sweep the typical home but not enough to reach every spot. (A second run usually works). That's not to say this model isn't a good choice It's lighter and more mobile than the older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming efficiency is superior on carpets with a low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of the most well-known robot vacuums the 694 is a basic model that's a great option for those who don't wish to spend too much on a robot vacuum cleaner sale. It could pick up all kinds of debris in our tests, and frequently went over the same area multiple times for an extensive clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach corners and edges of walls.

Its navigation system is smart robot and uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the mapping capability of more sophisticated models such as our Top Rated Robot Vacuum choices and the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. It may get stuck on phone cords or low furniture and is often unable to supply power before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694, as it has less parts that require regular cleaning, is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower recurring cost and has more advanced automation abilities and is able to better maneuver its own. It also has a bigger dustbin and is charged faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries and can be controlled by the voice assistant on your smartphone. It also feels better-built and has a more powerful motor, and is able to perform better on floors that are bare and carpets with low pile, while providing a greater variety of automation features.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a well-known brand in home electronics. It's no surprise that they are also among the top producers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is loaded with cutting-edge onboard intelligence technology to aid in navigation and obstacles avoidance.

The app gives you plenty of options to customize your robotic cleaner, including virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior adjustments, docking frequency settings, and much more. It's easy to understand and easy to use, just as is the case with other Samsung devices.

In our tests our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86 percent of it. However, it wasn't particularly well in avoiding larger objects, like cords and socks which was disappointing. It's also more expensive than other models we've tested, and this could be a problem for some buyers.

The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that is accessible via the app. You can also create a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you to check in on your children or pets while you're away. The filter and the dust bin are washable for quick, easy cleanup. The Jet Bot AI+ also has a clean station that self-empties to keep the robot's dustbin clear and optimizes its suction power for each cleaning run.

It also has a smart app that lets you view the virtual map and manage the functions and schedules. Plus, you can monitor the vacuum's battery status and return it to its dock for charging at the touch of one button. The app also lets you to personalize the lights on top of the vacuum using different colors, so that you can clearly see what areas it's focusing on or where it's stuck.

The app makes it possible to manually steer the robot, if necessary. My living room rug for instance has a dark-colored border which could cause a problem for other robots. However, the HRV 425BL kept moving across the border, but it didn't register it as an incline. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving benefit.
