The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it will leave your floors clean. Its affordable price and high-end functions (such as dirt detector) are positives.

robot-vacuum-mops-logo-text-black-png-original.jpgBe sure to regularly check your robot's brushes for tangled hair as well as large debris and wash them if needed. Some models can also automatically empty their onboard dust bin into a larger one at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuum that vacuums and mops vacuums we've test. They have motors that are top-of-the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ intelligent mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept at cleaning dog hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good value particularly if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you need to, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover (Read the Full Guide) for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer better cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot automatic vacuum cleaner and mop/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on various flooring and rooms with different flooring types including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuums best vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum cleaner best that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing some more volume and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they are.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It is a good robot vacuum vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. And you can create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
