robot-vacuum-mops-logo-text-black-png-original.jpgA affordable robot vacuum vacuum can keep your floors clean enough to cut down on the frequency of manual hoovering. Pick a robot vacuum that has good navigation, is able to clean corners and stairs and also has a large bin that only needs to be emptying every so often.

There are also models that can mop and charge themselves, a feature that may be important for people with children or pets. Many of the top performers in our tests have good obstacle avoidance.

1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is identical to its sibling the i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ a good option for those looking for a hands-off, fully automated cleaning experience, but don't mind having to empty their dust bin manually as it gets full.

Both robots do well cleaning up surface debris from hard floors and carpets, and they're excellent at moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart maps of your home to aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean up efficiently. However unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we evaluated the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles, so it may get stuck on things like socks or power cords and may have issues in navigating through transitions between surfaces like from hardwood to rug.

iRobot suggests cleaning the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or other clutter it might come across. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filter clean to prevent them from becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and takes the dirt out of the docking station's external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes around three hours to recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in iRobot's flagship line, and it is equipped with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most crucial feature of all -- it comes with self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can direct your robot using the app or by voice.

In our testing the i7+ performed faster and more maneuverable than our second-placed model and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces kinds including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, though it self-empties its dust bin which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and lowers the cost of maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to start or stop cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room, and to vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. Once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+, like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums with cords that look like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is a sports car. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for most households, but it also fits perfectly next to a coffee table or on shelves where you can move it around like an enchanted tool.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filtering system is able to trap allergens and then releases fresh air into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives stiff nylon bristles deep into carpets to trap large dust and crumbs. It has three different suction modes that can be adjusted to the task. It is able to quickly switch from handheld to floor vacuum, and vice versa.

The model also comes with a dock that charges to 100% in around 3.5 hours and provides an easy access to two attachments and an wand clip. This is a significant improvement over older Dysons models, which take a long time to charge and are a pain to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its short running time. Its marketing claims that it has up to 60 minutes of running time are a bit misleading as CR's tests have shown. This is an average and not a remarkable time to run an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. This is still enough to get rid of the majority of an average-sized house, but not quite long enough to clean every spot (though a second run-through usually can be effective). However, this model doesn't have its advantages: It's lighter and maneuverable than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming efficiency is superior on carpets with a low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums the 694 is a basic model that's a good choice for people who don't want to invest too much money on a robot vac. It's capable of sucking up most debris types and sizes during our testing, and it frequently goes over the same areas multiple times to get a really thorough clean. Its flat front side helps to get into corners and along the walls' edges which is a nice touch.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it's not equipped with the mapping capability of more sophisticated models such as our top choices and the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. Because of this, it may get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and often is power-depleted before making it back to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects because it has fewer components that require regular cleaning It also comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and is better at moving itself. It also has a larger dustbin and can charge faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries strips that can be controlled using your smartphone's voice assistance. It also feels better-built and has a stronger motor, and is able to perform better on floors that are bare and low-pile carpet, while providing a greater variety of features for automation.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in home electronics. It's not a surprise that they are one of the top makers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app offers a variety of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, including virtual barriers mopping water levels, behavior adjustments, docking frequency settings, and more. It's easy to understand and is user-friendly, which is the case with other Samsung devices.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and removed 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). It didn't do very well in avoiding taller items like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than other models we've tested and this could be a problem for some buyers.

The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that you can access via the app. You can also set up a live streaming from the robot vacuum hoover's cleaning station. This feature allows you to keep track of your pets or children when you're away from home. The dustbin and filter are washable for quick, painless cleanup. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean station that self-empties to keep the best robot hoover's dustbin clean and optimizes suction power for each cleaning run.

6. Black & Decker Robot Sweeper Vacuum

Black and Decker robots have been developed specifically for hard flooring. They feature an extra-wide cleaning path and an extra-large dust bin that can hold 2X more debris than other models to keep the cleaning area free of debris for the longest period of time. They also have two side sweepers for cleaning along edges and corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model comes with AutoSense technology, which can tell if it's picking up dirt on surfaces or embedded dirt and automatically adjusts the power level. It also has a smart app that lets you view the virtual map, and control functions and schedules. You can also monitor the status of the vacuum and connect it to its dock for charging with the click of a button. The app allows you to modify the LEDs on the top of the vacuum so that you can tell where it is focused or if it's stuck.

The app also makes it easy to manually steer the robot in the event of need. My living room rug for instance, has a darkly-colored border that can trip up some other robots. The HRV 425BL however continued to travel across the border without ever registering the edge. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving benefit.
