The iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO is a fantastic robot vacuum with a number of clever features that make it easier to maintain than many competing models. The automatic bin emptying feature is among the most expensive robot vacuum useful features we've seen on a robot and it is compatible with hard floors as well as carpets. It's also simple to set up and operate with the app that guides you step-by-step through the procedure. Its ability to restart the same place it left off during our tests is a great feature. It was able to do this for 77 minutes on one cleaning before the battery died.

The i3+ EVO unlike the other robot vacuums we have tested, comes with a self cleaning vacuum-emptying bin that automatically dumps debris in an external dirt compartment on the base of its charging once it is fully filled. This helps reduce the need for hands-on maintenance and keeps the i3+ EVO from overfilling, but it still needs to be manually emptied after every cleaning session. The i3+ EVO dust bin can hold 2.4L that is enough to last through four to five cleaning sessions.

Like the i7, this model is equipped with state-of-the-art floor tracking sensors to create maps and navigate in neat rows. The i3+ EVO can only store one map, whereas the i7 can store multiple. The i7's map can be used to create virtual barriers and no-go zones but not the i3+ EVO.

While the i3+ EVO is superior at picking up debris on surfaces than the other robovacs that we tested, it's not the best when it comes to cleaning corners and edges. It's also not as gentle on furniture, despite being relatively quiet. It pushed chairs away from walls and made some collisions with the sides of our test bed, and also became stuck on cords and toys during our testing.

2. Black & Decker Pro Q5

The Q5 Pro is an excellent option, whether you're expanding your collection of robot vacuums or just starting out. It features an elegant design with a powerful navigation system, as well as efficient automation at a low cost.
