Robot vacuums and mops are increasingly capable, acing our tests of cleaning and tackling different types of floors. Find models that allow you to choose from a variety of modes, and use their charging docks to automatically empty and clean stairs.

A lot of the top models are compatible with smartphones. Look for an app that allows you to save maps, schedules, and select cleaning modes.

1. Eufy Omni S1 Pro

The gunmetal and gloss black Omni S1 Pro from Eufy is one of most impressive robot vacuums and mop combinations available. It makes use of lidar to navigate, create maps of rooms and floors (even multiple levels) and integrates with the free Eufy Clean application that lets you set up schedules and modify the behavior of the S1.

The S1 was capable of mapping my downstairs quickly, which has linoleum flooring in the kitchen, dining room and bathrooms and also a large rugs and a medium-pile. It was able to drive close to walls and even over thresholds that are raised without issue. However it was a bit difficult navigating down the stairs in one go. The S1 also did a fantastic job cleaning hard floors, with its mop driving effortlessly on its flat side against the floor, and then lifting its own weight when it reaches carpet or rug.

After every mopping session, the docking station on the S1 automatically empties its dustbin and refills its water tank onboard with filtered, clean water ozonated. The dock also adds a cleaning solution into the water to ensure deep cleaning. The S1's tank of water holds enough water for around a dozen cleaning sessions before needing to be cleaned, although this can vary based on how often you use the mop.

The S1 requires regular maintenance, just like other 2-in-1 robots. You'll need to periodically rinse out the dirty tank to prevent it from becoming blocked. You'll also need to clean the swivel wheels and sensors regularly to keep them from becoming clogged with dust or dirt. Overall, the S1 requires less maintenance than other combos.

2. Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo Complete

Ecovacs All-in-one robotic vacuum and mop is a powerful solution for your cleaning requirements. Its robot vacuum boasts 8700Pa of suction and comes with a number of innovative features, including full home mapping, voice control and smart path-planning that avoids obstacles and cleans around furniture. Its mopping ability is impressive. Rotating mop heads actually lift the floor and scrub it, rather than simply drag a pad across a surface. The mops can be cleaned and dried at the base station if needed.

This robot has a simple interface that guides you through the process. It comes with an electric hand vacuum that can be recharged for those hard-to-reach areas that the robot can't reach, as well as two water tanks that are automatically emptied and refilled as required. It comes with a variety of settings that can be used to fine-tune your cleaning preferences.

The mops are also cleaned using heated water and dried in the base station when required. The mops are also filled from the top of the base station as needed.

3. Dreame X40 Ultra

Dreame's X30 Ultra robot vacuum and mop were released earlier in the year. But their latest flagship model has even more impressive features. It has outstanding cleaning performance and hands-off maintenance which makes it a strong contender on our top mop and vacuum robots. Its superior mapping capabilities, RGB AI smart recognition and a longer side brush ensure an efficient, customized clean.

The X40 Ultra vacuums well, it can remove both large and fine debris. It works equally well on hard floors and carpets. It cleaned the dirtiest areas of our tests efficiently, avoiding pet hairs and other messes. The sweeping performance of the machine is boosted by a sidebrush that automatically moves out to get into areas that are difficult to reach and mop pads that extend along baseboards.

Its navigation system is nimble, navigating small spaces and negotiating stairways without stepping back. It can move from one room to another without reversing direction it is a useful feature for larger homes with several rooms. Its obstacle avoidance is not as advanced than some competitors and leaves a wide margin around obstacles. This can result in missing spots.

The app features a simple, intuitive interface that should be easy to use for both new and experienced users. The app lets you schedule and manage cleanings. You can also alter suction power, mop settings as well as view 2D and 3-D maps. It can be controlled through the app, Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri and allows you to monitor its progress from anywhere. The Q5 is among the few robots we tested that didn't show any issues with high-pile carpets or area carpets, but it didn't pick up cables or kitty litter, which is no surprise considering it doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance.

5. K10 Plus

K10 Plus is one of the most quiet robovacs that we've tested. It also uses a unique system to map your home, which allows it to get into places that other vacuums can't reach. The K10 Plus also has a larger bin, so you don't have to empty it as frequently. It also has washable filters, which further reduces costs. This robot can also detect carpets and boost the suction if required. The app allows you to mark areas that you want it to stay clear of, which is a nice feature.
