A robot vacuum can keep your floors tidy enough to reduce the frequency of manual hoovering. Select a vacuum with good navigation, has the ability to clean stairs and corners and also has a large bin that needs to be cleaned out every now and then.

A lot of the top performers in our tests offer decent obstacle-avoiding capabilities.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is identical to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a good alternative for those who want a a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the dust bin once it gets full.

Both robots are adept in removing dirt and dust particles on carpets and hard floors, and they can easily maneuver around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean efficiently. The i3+ doesn't have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we test. It can be stuck on power cords or socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces like carpet and hardwood.

iRobot recommends clearing areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, which includes clearing out any clutter or toys it might encounter. It's also recommended to keep the dust bin and filter clean so that they aren't clogged by dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is low it goes back to its docking station and automatically emptying its debris into the station's external dustbin and continues cleaning the area where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for about an hour and a half of continuous use, and it takes around three hours to fully recharge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the latest features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and -- the most important feature of all -- it has self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and direct your robot by voice or through the app.

In our tests the i7+ performed more agile and faster than our second-placed model which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surfaces types, including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin which removes major maintenance sources and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and move around the room and sweep a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. When connected to these services, we were able communicate with the i7+ using voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world full of vacuums that are cordless and look like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is an old-fashioned sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up auto vacuum cleaner in the majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery, which produces power without fading for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system captures allergens, and then releases cleaner air into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet to collect large crumbs and fine dust. It comes with three suction modes that can be adjusted to the task. It quickly switches from handheld to floor vacuum and back again.

This model comes with a dock that can charge the Dyson to 100% within 3.5 hours. It also provides the ability to connect two attachments and the Wand. This is a significant improvement over earlier Dysons that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its limited run time. The tests conducted by CR show that its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is a common battery-powered cordless vacuum's run time. This is enough time to clean the typical home however, it's not enough time to reach every area. (A second run usually works). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeably superior for carpet floors with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums, the 694 is an entry-level model that's a great choice for people who don't want to spend too much on a robotic. It's capable of sucking up a variety of kinds of debris in our testing, and it often passes over the same areas multiple times to get a really thorough clean. Its flat front side helps it reach into corners and along the edges of walls, which is a nice addition.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and help you navigate your home. However, it lacks the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, such as our top picks, the i3+EVO and j7+ Series. It may get stuck on phone cords or furniture and often runs out of power before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects because it has fewer components that require regular maintenance and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in maneuvering itself. It also has a larger dustbin and can charge faster.

The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips and can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistance. It is also more durable, has a more powerful motor, and performs notably better on bare floors and low-pile carpet, while offering a wider range of automation features.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's not surprising, then, that they are also among the top producers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has a cutting-edge onboard technology to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app offers a variety of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, including virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and much more. It's easy to understand and user-friendly, as is the case with other Samsung devices.

In our testing our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86 percent of it. It was not as successful in avoiding taller items such as cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested, which might be a deterrent for some buyers.

The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that can be accessed via the app. You can also create a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you to monitor your children or pets while you're away. The filter and the dustbin can be cleaned to ensure an easy, quick clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean station that self-empties to keep the robot's trash bin clean and maximizes suction power for each cleaning run.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Contrary to other robotic vacuums that are specifically designed for hard floors and carpets, Black and Decker robots are specifically designed for hard floors. The robots come with an extra-wide cleaning path, as well as a dustbin that is 2X bigger than the competitors. This allows them to clean the area for a longer period of time. In addition, they have two side sweepers that clean around edges and corners. The POWERSERIES model includes AutoSense which adjusts the power level according to whether it's cleaning up dirt that is on the surface or embedded. It also comes with a smart app that lets you see the virtual map and manage the functions and schedules. You can also track the status of the vacuum robot and then send it to its dock for charging with the press of a single button. The app lets you customize the LED lights on the top of the vacuum so that you can determine where it is focused or if it's stuck.

The app also makes it easy to steer the robot manually should you need to. For instance my living room rug has a darkly colored border that tends to make it difficult for other robots I've tested. The HRV 425BL however continued to travel across the border, without notifying the cliff. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving advantage.robot-vacuum-and-mop-combo-wifi-app-voice-robotic-vacuum-cleaner-with-schedule-2-in-1-mopping-robot-vacuum-with-water-tank-and-dustbin-self-charging-slim-ideal-for-hard-floor-pet-hair-carpet-2-medium.jpg
