Some models will automatically empty their onboard dust bin into a larger bin in the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it sees an abundance of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept at cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to change the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. Its flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on various flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxes This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it's more expensive and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot autonomous vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home by using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. Additionally a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot vacuums best mop cleaners we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

robot-vacuum-mops-logo-text-black-png-original.jpgThe Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it is more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuum cleaner uk vacuums we have test. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
